GROVELAND, Fla. (TND) — A domestic disturbance call as the Independence Day holiday was beginning led to a teenage boy giving his drunk dad a black eye, and then calling the cops to arrest him for attacking his mom.
The arrest report said the son told police in Florida, “His father, Paul Eschbach, was intoxicated and began an argument with his mother, [name].
“The complainant advised he overheard [his mom] and Paul engage in a verbal argument, then heard his younger sister, [name], screaming ‘get off of her.’“The complainant advised when he went to see what was going on, he saw Paul grab [his mom] and restrain her by the hair.“The complainant stated that he instructed Paul to release [his mom], yielding negative results.
“Once the complainant realized Paul would not release [his mom], he struck Paul with a closed fist to the right eye to protect her.”But that didn't end the violence.
“The complainant advised that after Paul released [his mother],” the arrest report continued, “he began cursing and making attempts to grab [his mom] by the hair again, to get the complainant to strike him again.“The complainant advised that his younger brother, [name], [sister], and [mother] began trying to separate him from Paul, to deescalate the situation.“After separating, the complainant advised Paul pulled a firearm from his waistband and placed it in a kitchen cabinet.“The complainant then left the residence with [his brother] to contact emergency services.”
Police arrived and described the scene, writing, “Paul was noticeably intoxicated at the time of law enforcement arrival and throughout the interaction.“Paul was observed with a swollen right eye with a laceration with minor active bleeding,” but he refused to go with paramedics.“While speaking with Paul,” they continued, “he was slurring his words and denied an altercation transpiring.
“Paul stated that he is unaware of his injuries or how he obtained them.“Paul advised [he] obtained the injuries by falling, running into something, and overall, not having any recollection of tonight's events.”It wasn’t any easier getting information from his wife, the victim.
“[She] first advised that nothing transpired tonight,” the arrest report said, “and is unaware of why LEO [law enforcement officers] was contacted.
“[She] denied Paul grabbing her or any physical altercation taking place.
“After a while, [she] began to change her story and advised the altercation was only verbal.“[She] again changed her story, stating that Paul and her equally put their hands on one another.“Shortly after, [she] again changed the series of events.“[She] stated that she was not forthcoming about information, to protect Paul and the complainant.
“[She] refused to complete a sworn statement and refused to press charges.
“[She] became uncooperative with LEO.”
That didn’t seem to matter.
Officers spoke to the younger brother and sister, and then arrested their father for domestic battery.
Eschbach, 46, was released from jail after about a day-and-a-half in lieu of $1,000 bond.
He was ordered to have no contact with his wife and three children, and he pleaded not guilty.
