Search intensifies for Pennsylvania escaped inmate convicted of murder

Authorities are continuing their intense search Monday for "extremely dangerous" convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante who escaped a Pennsylvania prison Thursday.

The District Attorney's Office held a news conference at 1 p.m. with updates.

Representatives with Chester County law enforcement, Pennsylvania State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service stated they are stepping up the search for Cavalcante.

Officials said there have been four credible sightings within the search area since his escape. Police added they have responded to over 100 tips from neighbors that include allegations of possible break-ins to homes within a one to two-mile radius of the prison.

The evidence is still being analyzed to determine if Cavalcante was involved.

Additionally, those who live in Pocopson Township may hear recordings in Portuguese being played from police vehicle loudspeakers or from a helicopter of his mother begging him to turn himself in peacefully.

Pennsylvania State Police Deputy Commissioner of Operations, George Bivens said lethal force may be used to end the manhunt.

"If he is not actively surrendering, lethal force is authorized," he said.

On Saturday, the Chester County District Attorney's Office tweeted footage from a residential security camera that briefly shows Danelo Cavalcante passing by a house in Pocopson Township. The DA said it happened around 12:30 a.m. and is only one-and-a-half miles from the Chester County Prison.

He was seen wearing pants, a white T-shirt and white sneakers and carrying a backpack.

"His appearance has remained unchanged," District Attorney Deb Ryan said.

Officials said during a Friday news conference that they have no reason to believe he has left the area and are conducting a "thorough" local search.

He should not be approached directly by the public, officials said. He currently has an open arrest warrant in Brazil related to a 2017 murder.

Cavalcante is 5 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds with long, shaggy black curly hair and brown eyes. He also knows Portuguese and Spanish and some English.

Just last week, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, to death in front of her children in 2021. Before attacking his girlfriend, she learned of an open warrant for murder in Brazil and threatened to tell police, according to the district attorney's office.

Officials said Friday during the conference that they do not believe Cavalcante will attempt to go after Brandao's family.

Anyone who sees him or has any information is asked to call 911 or contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-877-WANTED2.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his capture.
